Sykes Stairlifts Supports Local Fundraiser to Help Knitting Club Member

At Sykes Stairlifts, we believe that mobility is about so much more than getting from one floor to another. It’s about maintaining independence, staying connected with friends, and continuing to enjoy the activities that bring joy and purpose to everyday life.

That’s why we were delighted to support a local fundraising campaign organised by Fiona, owner of The Wool Shop in Sheffield, to help install a stairlift for one of her knitting club members, Eileen.

A Community Coming Together

The Knit and Knatter club, which meets above The Wool Shop, has become an important social hub for many local people. For Eileen, it has been a place to enjoy her passion for knitting, spend time with friends, and remain part of a welcoming community.

Unfortunately, after suffering a fall and injuring her back, Eileen has found it difficult to manage the stairs.

Determined to help, Fiona launched a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising £1,000 towards the cost of installing a stairlift, making the upstairs space accessible once again for Eileen.

Proud to Play a Small Part

When we heard about Fiona’s efforts, we knew we wanted to help.

As a Sheffield-based stairlift company, we see every day how life-changing improved accessibility can be. Whether it’s helping someone remain independent in their own home or enabling them to continue enjoying their favourite activities, the right mobility solution can make a world of difference.

We were therefore pleased to contribute £500 towards the stairlift installation, helping the fundraising campaign move significantly closer to its target.

More Than Just Access

The story is about much more than a stairlift.

It’s about friendship, inclusion, and ensuring that nobody feels left behind because of mobility difficulties. Community groups like knitting clubs provide companionship, support, and a sense of belonging that can be invaluable, particularly as we get older.

By making the space accessible, Eileen can hopefully return to spending time with friends, sharing her love of knitting, and enjoying the social connections that mean so much.

Supporting Our Sheffield Community

At Sykes Stairlifts, we’re proud to support local initiatives that help people maintain their independence and quality of life.

We would like to congratulate Fiona on her fundraising efforts and thank everyone who has donated so far. It’s wonderful to see a local community coming together to help one of its own.

If you’d like to support the campaign and help make the knitting club accessible for Eileen and others in the future, donations can be made through the fundraising page.
