Consider installing a stairlift rather than moving home
Moving to a new home without stairs may seem like the easiest option but, there’s many reasons why you should consider installing a stairlift instead.
There comes a time for most homeowners where you’ll have to decide if you need to move to a more appropriate home without stairs. Typically, this is in the form of a bungalow or care / residential facility. This decision is usually spurred on by challenges in mobility which make it difficult or unsafe to go up or down a flight of stairs.
You may be surprised to read that there are many valid reasons why you should install a stairlift instead, rather than turning your life upside down with a house move. We’ve listed these below:
Cost
Moving home is not cheap. Even if you are downsizing the associated costs alone (legal fees, moving costs) would almost certainly cost more than having a stairlift installed. The installation and on-going maintenance would be a fraction of the cost of moving home and would be much less of a financial strain. Furthermore, with the pandemic, the cost to have construction work done and materials is currently very high due to demand so it’s also worth factoring that in.
Location
Moving home may mean moving locations and with bungalows in short supply you may find it difficult to locate yourself to the right place at a reasonable cost. The last thing you want to do is isolate yourself from family, friends and a good support network.
Time
Installing a stairlift can be a really quick process (sometimes just taking one or two days), compare that to the months it takes to list, sell and complete a house sale. With the pandemic everything is taking longer so expect big delays for house sales etc. All the while you will still have to endure your stairs and remain in your current predicament.
Stress
Do you remember the last time you moved home? The stress of a house move can be massive, and it can take a huge toll on a person due to all the moving parts. It’s not just the selling your home and finding a new one, you then have to de-clutter and pack up all your belongings and get them to the new property or find somewhere to put them if there’s any delays.
